Abstract

ABSTRACT Indian women have come a long way, and their visibility and degree of accomplishment in all areas of life, from the home to the highest levels of professional endeavors, are growing at an astounding rate. Women with an education are making enormous contributions to societal change, and in the future, an increased number of women will be joining sectors that have historically been dominated by males. In this study, an attempt is made to review the many research studies that have been undertaken on stress, and the coping mechanisms that women entrepreneurs use to cope with stress. The study has been carried out with the following objectives: (a) to measure the level of stress of women entrepreneurs in Chennai City, (b) to study the reasons for stress among women entrepreneurs, and (c) to examine the coping strategies followed by women entrepreneurs. The study is descriptive in nature, empirically made in Chennai City. Two hundred women entrepreneurs were selected in the study area using the convenience sampling method. A well-structured questionnaire (consisting of demographics, and 5-point Likert scales for measuring the level of stress and the coping strategies applied by the respondents) has been used for collecting data from the respondents. The data were applied in the Statistical Package for Social Sciences and analyzed with the help of parametric and nonparametric tests. The study concluded that the less experienced women entrepreneurs have more stress.
