Abstract

Abstract Tris(Hydroxymethyl)Aminomethane (TAM) is a polar organic crystal with pyroelectric properties. In this paper the pyroelectric coefficient, dielectric constant, loss tangent, a.c.-, d.c.-resistivity, P-E characteristic, and infrared transmissivity in a polar direction are reported. In addition, the samples were measured in both the positive and negative directions of the polar axis by means of the positron annihilation technique. In the positron annihilation lifetime and the intensity, obvious differences between the positive and negative ends were found. These differences demonstrate that the inclusions relate to structural factors, which principally affect crystal quality and its pyroelectric performance.
