Abstract

This study investigated the moral education function and practice of the school motto of the Chinese-Korean schools in Jilin Province. Of the 80 school mottos to be studied in this paper, eight Chinese-Korean schools directly used “moral(德)”. What is the educational purpose that the Chinese-Korean schools tried to realize through the moral education? First, Chinese-Korean schools tried to cultivate “true and upright” students through the moral education. Second, Chinese-Korean schools tried to maintain “national identity” through the moral education. Third, Chinese-Korean schools tried to encourage students to live progressive lives through moral education. Fourth, Chinese-Korean schools attempted to inform students of the ‘moderation’ of their actions and hearts through the moral education of school motto. This thesis attempted to find out how to practice morality of the school motto of Chinese-Korean schools. First, it is the establishment of school motto suitable for moral education. Second, it is the reinforcement of instruction for moral education. Third, Chinese-Korean schools should conduct moral education by carrying out didactic activities. Fourth, it is necessary to demonstrate the spirit of school motto by strengthening public relations activities inside and outside the school.
