A Study on the Integration of Culture and Technology Contents of Traditional Space of Xian Viewed with Silk Road

Abstract

Xian is a historical old capital which was the capital of 13 dynasties, the strategic point of historical diversity and environment and culture of more than 2,000 years since before Christ and it is a traditional space with imporant meanings for history and culture of China. Xian is geographically located on the center of exchange between the Orient and Occident and it has various cultural and technical heritage value. Such space feature was connected to Silk Road with the purpose of expanding territory to the West in Han period and pioneered the path between the East and the West. The pioneer of Silk Road became the chance for exchange of culture of China and the West. Silk Road worked as an important medium that connected the cultural and technical heritage value of Xian. This influenced the climate and civilization of the culture of Western society and opened the field of integration of science technology of the East and the West and international exchange. The traditional space of Xian has the meaning as the tangible value such as old architecturea and cultural heritage as well as the intangible value of various culture and technology such as the idea, knowledge, spirits, politics, background and region that are included in each of the spaces of Xian. This study aims to interpret the legitimacy and value that the East and West wanted to pursue through Silk Road with Xian, the starting point of the exchange of the East and the West with the viewpoint of integration of cultural aspect and technical aspect.
