Abstract
This paper presents slippage length-and-direction perceptual functions via finger-pad cutaneous sensations, which were obtained from experiments where the linear plane moves at a constant speed while in contact with finger on an index finger pad. Two conditions were compared in this study: (1) double task condition, i.e., the speed and duration-time varied condition, (2) a pair of single task conditions, i.e., either the speed or the duration-time fixed and the remaining varied conditions. It was found that, for a systematic error, there was no significant difference in the length perceptual abilities between the two conditions, and subjects were also unable to perceive the lengths in the duration-time-fixed and speed-varied condition. They suggest that, although the subjects may perceive the lengths to some extent, they almost cannot perceive the slip speeds, but they may actually perceive speed-perturbed duration times. (2) The perceptual random errors of slipping direction were examined, and were quantified by the standard deviation of 20 degrees.
