Abstract

According to the statistics on damage caused by natural disasters over the past decade, most public facilities were damaged by heavy rains and typhoons. Among them, the most extensive damage was sustained by river facilities. Currently, damage to public facilities in Korea is estimated using the multidimensional method, but it is an indirect estimation for calculating damage related to private facilities by multiplying the ratio factor. In this study, river damage data in the National Disaster Management System DB, velocity for physical characteristics, and sinuosity for topographic characteristics of the stream were used to estimate the cost of damage to local stream facilities. A loss function for local river facilities was developed by applying removal techniques for statistical abnormal data from the collected data. The developed loss function can be used as basic data for river disaster mitigation measures by estimating the extent of damage to the river from heavy rains and typhoons in the future.
