Abstract

Recently, nail art has rapidly grown under the influence of many creative designers. However, it has been western design patterns which have been mostly applied to nail art while it is hard to find nail art reflecting Korean traditional culture. In this study, the pattern illustration work of 8 knots with distinct form composition is bought a checkless method. After working on the Yonghae flat nail art, five knots with many symbolic stones wishing for happiness were selected and fused nails were selected. The artwork was completed. This study attempted to analyze modern nail art based on the beauty of Korean traditional knots and make pieces of works, confirming a possibility of practical nail art development with such traditional materials. Traditional knots have been commonly used in unique and typical gilsang (‘good fortune’) handicrafts which contain Korean traditional values. Therefore, this study aims to study nail art based on traditional knots and provide basic data needed for the popularization of nail art with such traditional knots by creating practical nail art patterns. It is anticipated that the study results would develop K-nail, considering the popularity of K-beauty provided that empirical studies on customer preferences and satisfaction concerning diverse traditional knot-based nail art are performed.
