Abstract

Abstract The present study deals with the root colonization of medicinal plants with vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizal (VAM) fungi. Mycorrhiza is defined as a mutualistic association between the fungi and plant roots. The plant materials used for the study were collected from the premises of St. Dominic’s College, Kanjirappally, Kottayam district of Kerala. The collected specimens were chemically treated and observed under microscope. The result of the study confirmed that the VAM fungi produce various structures within the roots. It was also noted that the root colonization percentage varied between 50 and 80% within the selected plants.
