Abstract
The authors broadly clarify in this paper as how do the distance between the residence of the PDS beneficiaries and fair price shop, uncertainty in opening and closing time of the fair price shops by the owners, inconvenient operational timings of the fair price shops, unawareness among the PDS beneficiaries about their rights and entitlements and behaviour problems of fair price shop owners pose problems to the PDS beneficiaries in availing of services from the fair price shops. In this paper, the authors try to understand the background information of the PDS beneficiaries and its association with their purchasing ability. The chi-square test revealed a highly significant association between education, occupation, caste, income, and type of card of the PDS beneficiaries and purchasing ability of the PDS beneficiaries. Age of the PDS beneficiaries was significant and sex, religion and size of the family were not significant with the purchasing ability of the PDS beneficiaries. Finally, the authors offer suggestions to sort out the problems being faced by the PDS beneficiaries in this paper.
