Abstract

Recently, many maritime accidents have been occurred, and the collisions accidents out of those were given by a great deal of proportions due to human error. Therefore, various works with respect to collision avoidance have been conducted. Collision avoidance started from evaluating the collision risk. Even though various concepts of the inference model of collision risk have been proposed, there was little discussion on the efficiency in terms of distance, time and so on. The present study thus considered the discussion of efficiency for collision avoidance between ships by applying representative inference models to near-collision situation. As a result, inference model based on the fuzzy theory indicated the appropriate collision risk index according to the required distance, time, and so on for collision avoidance. Accordingly, it would enable mariner suitable decision-making by taking into consideration the efficiency for safe navigation between ships.
