Abstract

Background: The conversion of Thyroxine (T4) to active triiodothyronine (T3) takes place in the peripheral tissues. Several studies suggested that an important role is played by the liver in the thyroid hormones metabolism. Methods: Study design: It is a hospital based descriptive cross-sectional study with comparison arm Study setting: Study is conducted in hospitals associated with Kasturba medical college, Government Wenlock hospital, KMC Attavar and KMC Ambedkar circle. Sampling method: convenience sampling Sample: 90 cases, 30 controls Results: Thyroid hormone abnormalities exist in liver cirrhosis patients. Conclusion: There are significantly lower levels of T3, T4 in cases, that is cirrhotic patients as compared to controls.
