Abstract

Weighted oscillator strengths for Fe I are calculated for the 3 d 64 s 2-3 d 64 s4 p, 3 d 64 s 2-3 d 74 p, 3 d 74 s-3 d 74 p, and 3 d 74 s-3 d 64 s4 p transition arrays. A selection of normalized values is listed and compared with experimental values compiled in the literature. Cancellation factors are also tabulated. The accuracy of the data is discussed and the effects of cancellation considered. The theoretical computations were made with the aid of a Hartree-Fock- Relativistic (HFR) program and involved the optimization of Slater parameters. Configuration interactions are taken into account between the following seven even configurations: 3 d 64 s 2, 3 d 74 s, 3 d 8, 3 d 64 s4 d, 3 d 74 d, 3 d 64 s5 s, 3 d 75 s and four odd configurations: 3 d 64 s4 p, 3 d 74 p, 3 d 54 s 24 p, 3 d 64 s5 p. A CRAY XMP/48 computer installed in the Joint Research Council's Supercomputer Unit at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory supplied the necessary processing power.
