Abstract

In order to elucidate the formation of precipitated iron catalysts for ammonia synthesis, the formation of solid solutions between α-Fe 2O 3 and Al 2O 3 was studied in the temperature range 500–950°C. The Al 2O 3 content in the solid solutions was found to be below 15 mole%. At temperatures of 800–950°C, solid solutions are formed at an appropriate rate. Specimens with relatively large specific surface areas are obtained at 800°C.
