Abstract
The powerful radio galaxy PKS 1138−262 is a massive galaxy in a dense environment as indicated by optical, NIR, radio and X-ray observations. We have found an overdensity of Ly α emitters within 1.5 Mpc of the radio galaxy which form a proto cluster at z=2.2. We have also found numerous candidate H α emitters near 1138−262. The surface density of H α candidates increases towards the radio galaxy, contrary to the density of Ly α candidates. We have spectroscopically confirmed the identification of nine H α candidates whose velocity dispersion is smaller than for the Ly α emitting sample. The field of 1138−262 also contains a high density of EROs and X-ray emitters. We will discuss the implications of these measurements and show that there are several galaxy populations present in the proto cluster.
