Abstract

In terms of the rotational-isomeric state approximation, the conformations of the flexible spacer and the mean order parameters of the spacer and of the mesogenic fragment were calculated for LC-polyesters with mesogenic fragments and spacers in the main chain. A comparison of the results with IR-spectroscopic data and X-ray structural analysis indicates that both the monomeric units, and the macromolecules as a whole, exist in a considerably extended state.
