Abstract

Abstract Mossbauer measurements on some iron carbonyl phosphine sulfide compounds show that there is no effect on the charge density or distribution when phosphine atoms which are bonded to Fe atoms in Fe2(CO)6(ButPH)2 are bridged by sulfur atoms. We have confirmed the previously proposed structural formula for compounds Fe2(CO)6(ButP)2S2 and Fe2(CO)6(ButP)2S3 in view of our Mossbauer results and their 1H NMR and IR spectral data and observed that the latter compound is conformationally less stable than the former one.
