Abstract

The two-proton pickup reaction (14C, 16O) has been investigated at 113 MeV on targets of 50Ti, 52Cr, 54Fe and at 130 MeV on a target of 52Cr. The proton pairing vibration at 4.28 MeV in 48Ca is seen, but no other evidence has been found of proton pairing vibration strength in the excitation energy range studied (0 to 7 MeV) in 48Ca, 50Ti and 52Cr. The energy dependence of the direct versus the sequential strengths of DWBA calculations has been investigated. By combining the direct and sequential DWBA amplitudes and using extended-basis-shell-model spectroscopic amplitudes, the reaction cross section to the 48Ca ground state has been predicted to within a factor of 5.5
