Abstract

This article reports the findings from a study of the fee collection practice in Alabama. A total of 151 probation and parole officers in Alabama responded to a questionnaire regarding probation and parole fee collection. The results indicate that all 54 field offices collect fees for supervision and that officers generally favor the practice. The greatest concern was voiced about the process by which fee collection is accomplished, which to many is time-consuming and distracts from supervision responsibilities.
