Abstract
Standard covalent bond lengths for compounds of the main group elements H through I are given, based on experimental structure determinations from the literature. Single, aromatic, delocalized, double and triple bond types are considered. A procedure for estimating missing values is given, based on the single bond length and/or the covalent radii of the atoms. Correction factors for ring bonds, and the problem of obtaining closed rings due to the redundant bond lengths and angles are discussed.
