Abstract

The challenges inherent in developing, implementing, and supporting information systems in organizations with global operations have led to an increased focus on the incorporation of global issues in information systems curricula. This paper describes a means of integrating global issues in the introductory MIS course. The approach employs a spreadsheet project that requires students to design, develop, and document a Microsoft Excel workbook to consolidate global sales data for a business organization with subsidiaries in seven countries. After completing the assignment, students use a cooperative learning technique to examine global issues in information systems.
