Abstract
A nutritional requirement for pyrimidines in rudimentary mutants of Drosophila melanogaster is reported. It is suggested that the rudimentary mutation causes a block in one of the first two steps of pyrimidine biosynthesis, and the evidence for a relationship between pyrimidine metabolism and the pleiotropic effects of the rudimentary gene is discussed.
