Abstract

Those whose lives are under threat usually perceive situations far more pessimistically than those whose lives are not. South Koreans experienced a most devastating war just three decades ago. Their homeland is located where the four most powerful nations — the United States, the Soviet Union, the People’s Republic of China (PRC), and Japan — are all competing for influence.
