Abstract

The five solid phases of NH 4 NO 3 and transitions between these phases are studied using solid-state 15 N magic angle spinning (MAS) and static NMR. The thermal behavior of this substance is explored by means of the MAS chemical shifts. A magnetic nonequivalence in the NO 3 - ions of phase V is observed. The principal values of the chemical shift tensors of the NO 3 - in all five phases are determined. The evidence of crystal packing deformations is seen in the static NO 3 - spectra of phases V through II
