Abstract

To improve the low voltage ride through (LVRT) capability of the doubly fed induction generator (DFIG), a series-connected current source converter (CSC) based superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES) device is proposed. Based on the controllable current source characteristic of the SMES and the electromagnetic principle of the transformer, the device will behave as a dynamic impedance to suppress the overcurrent during the voltage sag period. Simulation results based on MATLAB further verify its good current limiting performance.
