Abstract
Now days, the electric vehicles (EVs) are favored in transportation. The benefits of using these vehicles include cut down in emission and reduction of running cost. Hence it can be said that these vehicles are user friendly as well as environment friendly. The battery charging is the outstanding aspect of anxiety in an EV since it causes power quality (PQ) issues at the input mains because the diode bridge rectifier (DBR) has efficiency constraint due to multiple conduction losses and depicts nonlinear behavior at input mains. This issue can be curtailed by eliminating DBR from input and combined asset of diminished conduction loss in the circuit. This paper described single phase bridgeless (BL) improved power quality SEPIC converter topology with unity power factor, to comply the international IEC-61000-3-2 PQ guidelines i.e. it exerts a perfect sinusoidal line current <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$i_{ac}$</tex> with low harmonic distortions, low output ripple voltage and non-inverted output. For demonstrating the performance of the converter, it with 2kW and 48V rating is designed and its effectiveness is simulated in MATLAB/SIMULINK. The obtained performance is validated on hardware-in-loop (HIL) platform namely Opal RT for charging the battery.
