Abstract

This paper extends the previous study on geographic load balancing techniques for WCDMA networks using novel semi-smart antennas. The intelligent system can manage base stations' radio coverage cooperatively by using semi-smart antennas. Simulations show significant system capacity improvement when non-uniform user traffic exists. The key extension to previous work is to modify the original algorithm and make it to work in a geographical constrained environment like in a city where multi-path propagations can not be ignored. A comprehensive simulation package has been build to create and exam scenarios, perform simulations, and check simulation results. The new simulation package has greatly improved usability and productivity. With this tool, the semi-smart antenna based intelligent control for WCDMA networks can be examined with complex scenarios and constrained city environment. Especially Macau city has been tested as an example in this paper.
