Abstract

This paper establishes an analytical method to calculate the torque of synchronous reluctance machine (SynRM) with multiple layer flux barrier on rotor. A simplified model is derived from the magnetic circuit model to analyze the effect of the pole-pair number, stator and rotor structures, and winding configurations on the SynRM performance. Two prototypes are optimized following the rules concluded from the simplified model, and their performances are calculated with both analytical method and finite element method (FEM). Thanks to the performance improvement, the SynRM can be a considerable candidate for the electrical vehicle drive motor.
