Abstract

This paper presents a comparative analysis on the torque of a synchronous reluctance machine (SyncRM) with interior mounted permanent magnets (PM-SyncRM) using 2D finite elements method. The proposed models are the combination of SyncRM and interior mounted PM (IPM) machine in order to achieve simple rotor and stator structure and high electromechanical performance. Models consist of variable amounts of PMs. A reference SyncRM with the same rotor structure is compared with the proposed PM-SyncRMs in order to demonstrate the advantages of the PM utilizations in SyncRM. The proposed PM models are compared in order to realize the best performance and characteristics, which will be discussed in details, later.
