Abstract

A simple route in the synthesis of CdS nanoparticles (cubic-type) is presented. The synthesis is based on the reaction of H2S gas with a 10% aqueous solution of Cd(CH3COO)2 at room temperature The XRD pattern showed very broadened diffraction lines. The presence of CdS nanocrystallites 2–3nm in size was estimated by the Scherrer method. The CdS nanoparticles were characterized by Raman and UV/vis spectroscopies. The FE-SEM image showed the formation of uniform CdS nanoparticles with an average size ∼20–25nm, thus indicating that these nanoparticles consisted of very fine CdS nanocrystallites.
