Abstract
Rocket measurements of atmospheric transmission at 850 nm have shown a deep window at this wavelength. This has been employed to develop a simple, inexpensive aspect sensor suitable for small 'geophysical vehicles' (balloons, rockets and satellites). The performance of the sensor in one of the rocket vehicles is presented.
