Abstract

This paper presents a simple analytical path loss model for cellular communication system in urban environment. Rectangular shaped blocks with equalheight are used to modelthe buildings, and multiple diffractions over building rooftops are assumed to be the dominant propagation paths. A closed form expression is derived to calculate the total received field. To further simplify this expression, we assume that the center-to-center spacing of two neighboring buildings is constant, and all buildings are of uniform width. A simple path loss model is thus obtained. Good agreement between our theoretical results with measurements and models reported shows the validity and applicability of our model for such communication application.
