Abstract
An additional restriction is imposed on anti-symmetrized product wave functions for He 1s2s 1S if the 2s orbital is made orthogonal to the 1s orbital of the excited state. Variational calculations have been carried out using simple analytic wave functions. The condition of orthogonality of orbitals is not imposed but the total wave function for 1s2s 1S is made orthogonal to a simple approximate 1s2 1S function. Evidence is presented relating to the accuracy of the function obtained.
