Abstract
Physics motivations and experimental conditions for vertex measurements at future large hadron colliders (LHC, SSC) are given. A conceptual design of a possible silicon strip vertex detector for the ATLAS spectrometer is presented, including initial Monte Carlo studies and R&D prototyping.
