Abstract

The interaction of a system of many-level molecules with an external electromagnetic field is investigated in a semiclassical approximation. The system-related nonlinear equations for the polarization vector and differences in the population of molecular energy levels are obtained. Although the investigation is carried out specifically for the case of a three-level molecule, the applicability of the method is not restricted by the number of energy levels. The applicability is tested by the problem of an oblique electromagnetic wave reflected from a dielectric, whose properties are specified by the equations of semiclassical theory.
