Abstract

The shape of the 238U(n,f) cross section was measured relative to the 237Np(n,f) cross section over the neutron energy region 1.9–2.6 MeV to search for possible gross structure in the 238U cross section. Forty-two measurements were made in this energy interval with ∼ 24 keV energy resolution and a statistical accuracy of < 1 % using the 7Li(n,p) 7Be reaction as the neutron source. No structure was observed. Absolute measurements were made at 2.150 and 2.453 MeV to normalize the shape data.
