Abstract

AbstractRecent attempts to retrieve theological interpretation of Scripture rightly note the importance of the rule of faith for such an endeavor. Drawing upon Reformed theological and ecclesiological principles, the present article seeks to articulate an appropriate role for the rule of faith within biblical exegesis. As a faithful representation of scriptural teaching afforded by the church, Holy Scripture's authorized reading community, the rule of faith serves to enable faithful exegesis and to direct exegesis towards its goal, which is the exposition of individual biblical texts in light of Scripture's full scope and purpose.
