World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought was celebrated last Friday, June 17th. In this post, we will explain the 5 points you need to know to understand the current challenges for mapping degraded areas and combating desertification in the Brazilian semiarid region. We will also address recent advances in satellite monitoring of desertification, using revolutionary mapping technology . The technology makes it possible to extract crucial information for planning actions to combat desertification, using remote sensing through a Geographic Information System (GIS).
