Abstract

As a developing nation, India requires efficient lighting system with low power consumption. At several heritage sites, proper lighting system is essential where it not only make these sites visible but also to enhance its importance for spectators. This article discusses the importance of fiber optic cable to illuminate the lighting structure. Use of high power consuming lamps i.e. Incandescent lamp, Sodium vapor lamp, Metal halide, CFL Lamp etc. need more energy. This need of efficient lighting can be meet by use of non-conventional resources such as sunlight harvesting system (SHS), this system comprises of Fiber optic cable (FOC), Fresnel lens (FL) and solar collector (SC).The objective of this review paper is to focus on the better use of FOC application for a lighting system with efficient power consumption to optimize the usage of light in multiple and useful applications with high bandwidth, flexibility, less transmission losses, light in weight, which outweigh other traditional lighting schemes. The fiber-optic day lighting system is a promising and powerful approach to transmit sunlight through FOC.
