Abstract

In this evolving technology, we move towards a more comfortable and swifter life, which comes with certain drawbacks. Among them, noise finds one of the prominent places due to modern urbanization and industrial developments. So, it becomes necessary to control the noise level effectively in all the fields of engineering. The purpose of this work is to highlight the most promising acoustic materials ranging from eco-friendly natural materials to artificial structures. This review primarily focuses on the current trends of acoustic materials that include natural fibers and recycled materials, metamaterials, acoustic black holes, micro-perforated panels, and advanced foams. All these acoustic materials have gained much attention in the present and also promote future directions. Furthermore, the leverage of additive technology also enhances the development of the customized design of acoustic structures is also reviewed.
