Abstract
A review is given f the known response of animal tissues in terms of the NMR parameters T 1 (the spin-lattice relaxation time), T 2 (the spin-spin relaxation time), and D (the molecular diffusion coefficient). Correlation is made between the behavior of these parameters and water cncentration variations in tissues, with particular reference to concentration changesin cancerous tissue. The correlation is discussed in terms of the various physical models ofr intracellular water. Finally, the significance of these results to the optimization of the NMR radiological technique is examined.
