Abstract
We undertake a review of Chinese-owned Australian patent rights over the last decade. In summary, the overall learnings from this study are:• There is a subset of high-quality Chinese patents that are identifiable by the following characteristics; standard patents, granted, renewed, and members of Triadic patent families• There is also a subset of lower quality patents that are identifiable by the following characteristics; innovation patents, not certified• In this data set, up until the date the data was collected, Huawei has by far the most Australian patents of all Chinese entities• There is an unexpected concentration of patent agent services provided by IPH, resulting from the merger of a number of independent patent attorney firms• There has been no patent enforcement by Chinese owners of Australian patents
