Abstract

A resource management framework, called dynamic resource scheduling (DRS), is presented and evaluated for W-CDMA systems. Dynamic resource scheduling provides QoS provisioning through optimal power assignment and code hopping by its adaptability according to the instantaneous traffic load and interference conditions. In this paper, error and bandwidth QoS parameters are considered; power is treated as the common resource. DRS is observed from the power control point of view, and the uplink channel performance is evaluated. Initial results show that DRS provides higher capacity and throughput, more stable QoS maintenance and lower power usage as compared to existing schemes. The DRS framework efficiently serves different traffic classes with CBR, VBR, ABR and UBR characteristics.
