Abstract

We thought that you would like to know the results of the first year of our committee's fundraising efforts, which have been very successful. We held a series of dinners and other events, from September 1985 to April 1986, that raised a total of $24,173. The dinners were held in private homes, with no fundraising other than the entrance charge ($125 per person); attendance was limited to 20 people, and the food and wine were contributed by the hosts. Each dinner had as a special guest a friend of MR, and we are grateful to all of the following: Studs Terkel, Alex Cockburn, George Wald, Barbara Ehrenreich, Noam Chomsky, and John Kenneth Galbraith. There were spirited, informal discussions in a warm congenial atmosphere. This article can also be found at the Monthly Review website, where most recent articles are published in full.Click here to purchase a PDF version of this article at the Monthly Review website.
