Abstract

A reliability-based preventive maintenance methodology for the projection spot welding machine

Highlights

  • For several decades, the projection spot welding (PSW) machine has been extensively used in the automobile industry for assembling the bodies of modern cars

  • The results show that there is no trend in time before failure (TBF) and time to repair (TTR) data

  • This paper has presented the reliability and the maintainability analysis using a statistical modeling technique to analyze the reliability characteristics of a projection welding machines electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic sub-systems

Summary

Introduction

The PSW machine has been extensively used in the automobile industry for assembling the bodies of modern cars. The quality of the welding joints depends on the effective operation of the welding machine and its components (Kimchi & Phillips, 2017). The reliability and the maintainability analysis based on statistical modeling techniques is used to determine PMI for the PSW machine. To analyze the reliability and maintainability of welding machine, data on failures and repairs were collected from an automobile assembling company located in Uzbekistan. The proposed method can be helpful for plant engineering and maintenance staff to determine critical parts of the machine, to organize effective maintenance strategy for the projection-welding machine and any other types of welding machines
