Abstract

Theoretically calculated stepped horizontal elutriator samplers are proposed as reference size-selective dust samplers for use in calibration of practical respirable dust samplers. The practical calibration could be carried out in polydisperse or monodisperse dust clouds by direct comparison. It is shown that a good match to the proposed American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) respirable dust specification can be obtained when using multiple horizontal elutriator channels with the same width and airflow but with differing lengths.
