Abstract
In this expository paper, we use a naive approach to the structure of inverse semigroups to motivate the introduction of P-semigroups and E-unitary inverse semigroups. A proof of the so-called P-theorem, due to W.D. Munn, is used to simplify some existing results on inverse subsemigroups of, and congruences on, E-unitary inverse semigroups.
