Abstract

In their description of the rural perinatal evaluation and education program in Iowa, Hein et al.1 present a comparison of pre- and post-site-visit policies, practices, and procedures. This evaluation was based on two sets of data obtained by different means without evidence of the validity of this comparison. The first group of data was determined by assessment of the existing situation at the local hospital by a visiting perinatal team, utilizing direct observation. Approximately 90 days after the site visit and educational program, a questionnaire was sent to the hospital for self-assessment of changes in perinatal practice.
