Abstract
Cynical Physics Bulletin readers might question the purpose of research on sports turf, since grass is grass and games are just for fun, but this does not take into account the economic and social aspects of sport. As a nation we spend more on sport (excluding gambling) than on DIY, all reading matter, audio equipment (including records and tapes) and on TV and video (including software, rentals and purchases).
