Abstract
Abstract The reactions of CF 3 SF 3 with silanes of the general formula (CH 3 ) SiR, R = H, Cl, N(CH 3 ) 2 , NH(CH 3 ), N(CH 3 )Si(CH 3 ) 3 , and SCH 3 have been investigated. Treatment of CF 3 SF 3 with (CH 3 ) 3 SiN(CH 3 ) 2 results in the production of CF 3 SF 2 N(CH 3 ) 2 (I). The reaction of CF 3 SF 3 with (CH 3 ) 3 SiOCH 3 leads to a mixture of CF 3 SF 2 OCH 3 (II) and CF 3 S(O)F 2 (CH 3 ) (III). Compound (I) has been characterized by mass, infrared, and NMR spectroscopy. Compounds (II) and (III) were indentified on the basis of NMR spectroscopy. All other silane reactions resulted in the isolation of decomposition products. Similar observations were made when SF 4 was treated with (CH 3 ) 3 SiH, (CH 3 ) 3 SiCl, or (CH 3 ) 3 SiOCH 3 . New preparations of CF 3 SF 3 and (CF 3 ) 2 SF 2 are reported.
