Abstract

Objective To investigate the role of nursing intervention in the improvement of sleep quality in elderly patients with stroke.Methods 240 elderly patients with stroke were randomly selected and divided into study group and control group,120 for each group.The study group received nursing intervention,while the control group received routine care.Sleep duration,sleep latency,times of awakening,sleep quality,and scores on the SAS and SDS in the two groups were compared.Results After nursing intervention and routine care,the improvement level of sleep was better in the study group than in the the control group,with a statistical significance(P<0.05).The decreased degree of PSQI score was bigger in the study group than in the control group,with a significant statistical difference(t=30.220,P=0.000).The scores on SAS and SDS were lower in the study group than in the control group,with a statistical significance(P<0.05).Conclusions Nursing intervention for elderly patients with stroke can effectively relieve anxiety and depression and help improve sleep quality in patients.
